Fall Events: Kettlebell Sport Competition

We have many fun things ahead of us this fall at CFK! One of the first events coming up is a Kettlebell Sport competition on September 23, the Southern Bells Classic Kettlebell Sport Competition with Georgia Kettlebell Sport

In Kettlebell Sport, athletes are challenged to complete as many reps as possible in either 5 minutes or 10 minutes of kettlebell snatches, jerks, or clean and jerk (aka "Long Cycle").

In traditional sport, which is the kind of lifting featured in this competition, athletes may not set the kettlebells down during the set, and if they are using one kettlebell, only one hand switch is allowed. This requirement to be under load for the duration of the set creates the unique challenge of Kettlebell Sport, turning it from a straightforward AMRAP into more of a short-term endurance sport. Breathing, pacing, and efficient technique become key elements to success, even under relatively light loads.

Men typically start at 16kg (for double bell lifts) and work their way up to 24kg and 32kg (at the professional/elite levels). Women start at 8kg or 12kg bells, and compete with 16kg-24kg bells depending on the lift. Most Kettlebell Sport leagues have ranking tables to allow athletes to track their progress as they get faster and stronger and progress to heavier bells.
Georgia Kettlebell Sport (GKS) is the only organization we know of here in Georgia that is developing the sport in our state, and GKS is proud to call CrossFit Kennesaw our home gym.

We are looking forward to hosting the Southern Bells competition and invite you all to try it out for yourselves! This competition is beginner friendly (sign up for a single bell, 5 minute event), and affordable. Youth athletes are welcome, too. To learn more, click the event link above, or talk to Jenn Casey

If you aren't wanting to lift THIS TIME, we'd love it if you came out to cheer our athletes on! September 23, lifting begins at 12:30pm!
