Pull-ups are one of the most common goals we hear about from our members. Many of our new members don't have pull-ups when they first walk in our doors, and some have never ever done one. For some of us, the pull up is deceptively simple and elusive, but that doesn't mean you can't get one!
At the beginning of 2017, Coach Gina Wileman asked her Fast & Strong members about their goals. One common goal was pull-ups. Some members wanted to get their first pull-up, and others wanted to add more to the pull-ups they already can do. And #GetYourPullups was born!
Here is what she had to say about it:
"After sitting down with Fast & Strong athletes for goal setting at the beginning of the new year, we quickly realized that many of them shared a common goal of getting their pull-ups in 2017. We saw this as the perfect opportunity to add "extra work" with a focus specifically targeted to helping them do exactly that.
Rather than recreating the wheel, we decided to use an existing program that would not only help those looking for their first pull-up, but also improve the strength and ability of those who were already doing them. We selected a program that includes kipping practice as part of the skill development, but places a larger focus on strength development using negatives, strict pull-ups (with assistance and bands as needed) and auxiliary work building core, bicep, and grip strength. www.ChrisStroud.net
So far we are seeing a great deal of improvement by those who have been diligently putting in the work. Some athletes have been able to get that elusive first pull-up, while others have mentioned feeling much stronger in stringing together larger sets. Looking forward to hearing of more success in the weeks to come and excited to try another program in a similar way, to help our athletes reach many more goals this year. "
We saw some F&S members getting their first pull-ups in the CrossFit Open WOD 17.2 just last weekend. It is so exciting to see that hard work paying off!
ANYONE at CFK can play along with #GetYourPullups! The program is on our board, and programmed into the F&S daily work. Gina or any of the coaches can help you understand what it means and how to get started.
Is 2017 your year for pull-ups? We think it is! #GetYourPullups
